Remote Learning:  With the most recent announcement from the Government of Ontario our teaching and learning moved online beginning January 5, 2022.  Our teachers and students were prepared for this possibility.  Teachers have posted classroom schedules and expectations in google classrooms and we have sorted out technical difficulties as we supported our students getting connected to their classrooms.  This week can be considered a success.  If your child has not been able to connect to their google classroom, please contact the teacher directly who will be able to assist.  Our students and staff have put in a tremendous effort this week which has allowed their learning to continue uninterrupted.  We also recognize that our parents and families at home have had to make adjustments to support these changes.  We can all be proud of what has been accomplished in a short period of time.

Google Classroom Tip:  Student work is assigned and handed in through the Google Classroom.  Here is a helpful video with tips about accessing and submitting student work.

Physical Activity:  Our return to remote learning makes it challenging to maintain screen time limits.  The Caring for Kids website  provides guidelines for the amount of physical activity our children need.  The Winter Activity Bucket List or the Active for Life websites which contain great suggestions for physical activities for our students.

Indoor Games: Here are several interesting ideas for indoor activities that will keep children involved for many hours.

Orthodox Christmas:  We wish all those celebrating Orthodox Christmas on January 7th, a very happy celebration.  Information about the origin of Orthodox Christmas.

The Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit (CRCB): CRCB gives income support to employed and self-employed individuals who are unable to work because they must care for their child under 12 years old or a family member who needs supervised care. This applies if their school, regular program or facility is closed or unavailable to them due to COVID-19, or because they are sick, self-isolating, or at risk of serious health complications due to COVID-19. The CRCB is administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).  Here is the link to the CRCB

Student Absences:  Student safety continues to be our top priority.  When a student is absent for an unknown reason our School Messenger system will call out to homes to confirm the absence.  If you know that your child will be absent, you can be proactive calling the School Messenger system, 1-833-250-2290, press 3, between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to report the absence to our system.   You will be given a number of options for the absence: illness, appointment, family matter, weather or other.  While we are learning remotely, you may also want to send an email to your child’s teacher to inform them of the absence.

Friday, January 14 – PA Day:  January 14th is a Professional Activity Day for teachers allocated for assessment and reporting.  There will be no school for students on this day.

Covid Forms: The Student Health Pass was updated on January 5, 2022.  It will be used upon our return to in-person schooling and is available on the main landing page of the TDSB website.  More information about the daily health screening is available here.  Back to School Confirmation Form (to be updated) – If a child is home or sent home from school with symptoms of Covid this form should be completed and brought to school on the first day of return.
