Hannukah:  Chanukah is the Jewish eight-day, wintertime “festival of lights,” celebrated with a nightly menorah lighting, special prayers and fried foods.  The Hebrew word Chanukah means “dedication,” and is thus named because it celebrates the rededication of the Holy Temple.  Also spelled Hanukkah (or variations of that spelling).   More information about Hannukah is here.  Hannukah runs from November 28 – December 6.  For those celebrating Hannukah, we wish you peace and light this season.

Request to Switch from In Person to Virtual School:  All TDSB students completed a selection form for in-person or virtual learning for the 2021-2022 school year.  There is one opportunity to request a switch between in-person and virtual learning in February 2022.  In order to plan ahead the ‘Switch Form’ will be open for elementary students between December 3rd and December 7th.   Changes will take place effective February 22, 2022.  The TDSB cannot guarantee that all requests for a change will be met but will do the best to accommodate as many as possible.  If students wish to remain in the present delivery mode, then there is no need to complete a form.  Further information will be available in next week’s Friday Flash Update.

Students Returning From Travel Outside of Canada:  As families look toward the Winter Holiday – December 18 to January 2 – it is important to be aware of Federal Covid guidelines for travellers.  Unvaccinated children under 12 years old, who travel outside of Canada must isolate for a period of 14 days upon their return, even if they travelled with fully vaccinated individuals.  This means that students can not return to school until the end of the 14-day period.  Attached is a copy of the Canadian Covid Travel Guidelines.

Voluntary Declaration of Vaccine Status – Students:  If a student would like to voluntarily declare their vaccine status, this can be done through the Health Screening Application or the Online Portal.  The status of a student would only be needed if it is necessary if a student is deemed to be a close contact of another individual who tested positive for Covid-19.  More information about voluntary declaration to the TDSB of a student vaccine status is available here.

Vaccination for Children Age 5 – 12:  The TDSB sent a letter from Toronto Public Health to all families by email earlier this week.  The letter contained information and many resources for parents who would like to get their child vaccinated for Covid-19.   Vaccination appointments can be made through the province’s online registration system or by calling 1-833-943-9300.

Extra-Curricular Sports for the Winter Season:  The TDSB has made a decision that any student 12 years of age and older who would like to participate in extra-curricular sports will need to demonstrate that they are fully vaccinated prior to participation.  Please see the attached letter for more information about this decision.

Switch from In-Person School to Virtual School:  On Thursday, November 25th the TDSB sent out a message to all parents informing all TDSB families about the Elementary Switch Form that needs to be completed between December 3 and December 7th if you are requesting a switch between in-person and virtual learning for your child.  More information about the switch between formats can be found here www.tdsb.on.ca/switchform
