Meet the Teacher/Curriculum Night – Virtual:  Our Meet the Teacher/Curriculum Night will occur on Thursday, September 30th beginning at 6:30 p.m. As we continue to follow our Covid safety procedures, the night will be virtual.  Teachers will provide an online meeting link where parents will be able to ‘meet the teacher’, and there will be time for questions about the class and program for this year.  Teachers will not be able to address questions about individual students during this time.

Orange Shirt Day:  What is Orange Shirt Day? Thursday, September 30th is Orange Shirt Day, it also marks the first annual National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, which was passed by legislation this summer to become a federal statutory holiday. Schools in Ontario will remain open.  On this day, we recognize the legacy and impact of the residential schools system on First Nations, Métis and Inuit families and communities. We acknowledge the legacy of residential schools in Canada by wearing orange and we honour the survivors. We remember the thousands of children who were murdered and buried in unmarked graves.  Students may want to wear orange in support of Orange shirt day and to think about the impact that residential schools had upon children.

Orange Shirt Day Contest:  Would you like to win an Orange shirt?  Students are invited to submit a written passage about the importance of Orange Shirt Day, to the office by noon September 29th.  One student will be selected from the submissions.

School Organization:  In last week’s update, we informed families that we would be able to inform students of any reorganization by the end of this week.  This week we have been told by the staffing office of the TDSB that we will not here about reorganization directions until the first full week of October.  We thank you for your patience.

Use of School Grounds After Hours:  Lambton-Kingsway JMS takes great pride in our school yard as do members of our community.  The yard is well used by our students and others after hours.  It is important that those using the school yard also take care of and maintain it all times.  We ask those who use the yard after school to refrain from littering and to keep our yard clean and tidy.

Bus Zones – No Parking:  Some of our students are transported to school by school bus.  The bus loading zone is on Government at the northeast corner of the school.  We ask parents who are driving their students to school to avoid parking in the bus loading zone.  We remind all student that we encourage them to walk or ride a bike to school.  As our parking lot is also quite full, parents may find it more effective to park on a neighbouring school and walk a block or two to school with students.

Dropping Off Items to the School: Thank you to our parents and caregivers who continue to adjust to our school safety procedures in regard to school entry.  Unfortunately, we are not able to have visitors in the building as of yet.  Presently, if you are dropping off and item or picking up or dropping off a child, parents and caregivers will need to ring the bell and speak to our office staff but should remain outside the main school building.  If it is necessary to drop off forgotten items, please contact the office from outside the doors and they will provide direction, entry and you will be able to place items on the drop off table and your child will be called from class to pick up the item.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Terry Fox Fundraising:  Our Terry Fox walk day is Wednesday, September 29th.  Due to social distancing requirements we will not be able to participate in our usual school walk/run.  Each teacher will be taking classes out on this day to participate in the walk.  This year our goal is to raise $25,000.  If you are able to help us reach our goal, you can make a personal or corporate donation online at:  http://www.terryfox.ca/LambtonKingswayJMSEtobicoke
