Yom Kippur: To our Lambton-Kingsway families who observed Yom Kippur on September 15-16 we hope you had an easy fast. Yom Kippur is a day of fasting, repentance, and self-examination. For those wishing to learn more about Yom Kippur, information is available here. G’mar chatima tovah
Diversity in our School and Community: The city of Toronto is home to over 3 million people who have roots that spread throughout the world. Lambton-Kingsway students and families also have roots and traditions that also span a great distance. We do our best to recognize the unique traits and experiences of our students. Learning about the heritage of others helps us learn together. If your family celebrates holidays that you would like recognized in our Friday Flash and that we can learn about, please let us know by sending a message to lambton_kingsway@tdsb.on.ca
Student Permission Forms: At the beginning of each school year, parents receive an email with a link to permission forms for students. This past week the form was sent out to all families and there were some technical difficulties. It is our understanding that the forms are now accessible from the email link. Thank you for taking the time to complete these forms for our students.
Meet the Teacher Curriculum Night: Our Meet the Teacher/Curriculum Night will be held on September 30th beginning at 6:30 p.m. As we continue to follow TDSB and Toronto Public Health safety guidelines the night will be held through virtual meetings. Teachers will provide a link for parents. We look forward to meeting you and sharing our classrooms with you.
Return to School Confirmation Form: Parents are reminded to complete the Return to School Confirmation form if a student is sent home from school with symptoms. Upon the first day of return to school, students should present the form to their classroom teacher.
School Organization and Possible Reorganization: Each year in the third week of school, the staffing department of the board reviews class sizes to ensure that there is compliance with Ministry of Education expectations. Periodically, schools are required to reorganize classes to meet the requirements. If we are required to reorganize our classes, parents and students will be notified by September 23.
Parking Lot: Although our parking lot is relatively large, we also have a large staff and there is limited space for parking. Parent may use the parking lot loop as a ‘Kiss and Ride’ in the morning which allows students to safely exit cars and walk to the playground. If parents are parking and dropping off students to the Before and After programme, we ask that you use the parking area available on Prince Edward Drive. This will avoid the need for cars to double park in the parking lot. Thank you for your assistance.
Loaned Devices – Please Return: Thank you to all those who have returned any Chromebook or iPad that was borrowed from the school or the TDSB in the last year. We are still missing approximately 10 devices and a similar number of charging cords. We ask families who borrowed a device to take one last look throughout your home for a device or charging cord and if found, to deliver it to your child’s teacher.
Grade 6 – 8 Lunch Procedures: Our Grade 6-8 students are responsible and leaders in the school and community. While all students are welcome to stay for lunch, many of our Grade 6 to 8 students choose to leave school property over the lunch hour. Parent Permission is necessary for a student to leave the property. Earlier this week a message was sent out to families asking parents to provide permission for their student to leave the school at lunchtime. If you have not had the opportunity to fill out this form it is available here.
Letter from Toronto Public Health: Toronto Public Health provides guidance and support to families, school boards and many organizations. Here is a link to a letter to parents with information, updates and valuable links as we work together to keep our children, staff and families safe.
Terry Fox Fundraising: This year our goal is to raise $25,000. If you are able to help us reach our goal, you can make a personal or corporate donation online at: http://www.terryfox.ca/LambtonKingswayJMSEtobicoke Your child(ren) can still collect pledges by downloading a Pledge Sheet. All cheques need to be made out to The Terry Fox Foundation. Together we have made a huge difference by raising $535,088.19 over the past 20 years!
Lunchroom Supervisor Position Available: The TDSB and Lambton-Kingsway JMS are looking for Lunchroom supervisors. If you are interested in a Lunchroom supervisor position from 11:10 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. please contact our main office at 416-394-7890 to apply for the position.
