April 2 – April 5 – Easter Holiday: April 2 is Good Friday and April 5 is Easter Monday. There is no school on this four-day holiday weekend.
Possibility of Remote Learning: The daily news media continues to report increasing Covid cases in Toronto and there is much speculation about possible school closures. Families should know that the Lambton-Kingsway teaching staff would like to remain teaching in-person until the end of the year, however, they are also prepared for the possibility of remote learning. The continue increase in positive cases serves as a reminder for everyone of the importance of wearing masks, sanitizing hands frequently and remaining socially distant. Any decisions about the closures of school will be announced in the local media by the Ministry of Education and the TDSB.
Covid Safety: Students and families are reminded that it is important to follow all safety procedures as directed by Toronto Public Health. Frequently, individuals who have Covid are contagious at least 48 hours prior to exhibiting symptoms. We realize that it is difficult for students and families to remain relatively isolated in their lives, but it remains important to be vigilant. Students are reminded that after they are dismissed that they should head home right after school and if students are walking together or gathering they should continue to wear a mask at all times.
Hepa Filters: Our Hepa filters have arrived! Each classroom is now equipped with a Hepa filter. The filters are designed to run 24 hours a day. Teachers are also keeping the windows open when possible to ensure greater air flow.
World Autism Day – April 2: Autism is a neurological disability that is prevalent in about 1 out of 60 people. Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviours, speech and nonverbal communication, as well as by unique strengths and differences. We now know that there is not one autism but many types, caused by different combinations of genetic and environmental influences. World Autism Day is a day when people from all around the world recognize, embrace and celebrate individuals with autism. We are all important and diverse.
The Impact of Body Image on Food Intake and Mental Health: Liz Pearson is presenting to our Grade 7 and 8 students on April 22 during school hours. We have arranged to have a presentation for parents during the evening. The parent presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. A link will be sent in next week’s Friday Flash.
Being a Close Contact: Hearing that you or your child has been a close contact to a positive case of Covid can be unsettling. Toronto Public Health provides direction and guidelines for people who are close contacts. Based upon the most recent information, if you are a close contact, you should wait 7 or more days before you are tested.
