Good morning LKS Families.
We hope all of you are well.
While you could just turn on CityTV News or CP24 to find out what is going on in the world of “School Re-Openings”, Kimm and I will still share some of the latest developments.
There will be a Board meeting tonight where the TDSB will be looking to finalize (hopefully) the system plan for opening both elementary and secondary schools. We know they will be discussing the official first day – there is talk it might not be September 8 – and a possible staggered start. What that could mean is over a period of days, we would be admitting one to two grades at a time building towards all students in attendance.
We have also heard there is a motion going forward that all students, K-12, will be required to wear some form of mask or face shield. This is not final and we do not know how exemptions or accommodations would work at this time.
Kimm and I met with a group of teachers yesterday to discuss some of the logistics around student entry and exit, staggering recesses to limit numbers outside, and incorporating daily outdoor learning for all of our students to name a few. We are confident we have a solid plan. Let me just say, what an amazing crew to work with. While we all have many questions, the group was focused on finding solutions that work for all of us and our students. Today we will meet with members of your Parent Council to discuss our tentative plans and share ideas.
Once we receive our final ‘in-school’ numbers – early next week we hope – we will be working to finalize our classes and will be able to give you a better idea of class sizes and more specific plans. To help all of you with this, we will be preparing a Parent Manual for all of you in advance of opening day.
As always, we will keep you in the loop as we navigate our reopening. As we said to staff today, while this is a very different opening, we know we are going to be just fine!
Have a great day and talk soon.
John and Kimm
