We hope all of you continue to be healthy and well.
As you would have heard yesterday, the Province has now said that schools will not reopen on April 6, 2020. At this time we have no further information.
Late last week, phase one of support for student learning was launched with the Ministry of Education’s Learning at Home website. This portal provides supplementary learning materials in math and literacy for elementary and secondary students. The ministry has said that these resources do not replace what students have been learning at school, but are intended to help mitigate learning loss during the COVID-19 shutdown period.
The TDSB also provided additional online resources (also available on the home page of TDSB, Director’s Update, Continuation of Learning if this link doesn’t work) that will support the Ministry’s Learn at Home initiative, covering a range of grades and subjects that may be helpful for students and parents during this time. It is important to note that these online resources are not mandatory or graded and are meant for families to use as optional resources to support independent learning while students are at home.
As we wait for further direction, please do take advantage of the online resources. At this time, all of us continue to be in a holding pattern as we wait for further direction. Work at the Ministry and Board level is well underway and we too have begun to frame how learning can continue for our students. We are hoping over the next few days we will be able to give more detail. It is also our understanding you will be receiving a message from the TDSB later this evening.
Please continue to take care of yourselves and your children.
Best.
John and Kimm
