PARENT COUNCIL NEWS:

Parent Council Meeting – November 18

The next meeting will be on Monday, November 18 at 7pm in the library. Please join Parent Council for the meeting to discuss events and activities at the school, debrief of the Parent Social on November 1st, committee updates and schoolyard renewal project. All are welcome, childcare will be provided. Voting members are reminded that attendance is required to pass meeting minutes and program budgets.

Winter Coat and Boot Drive

Monday, November 18 – Thursday, November 28 , 2019

Children at Second Street Junior Middle School in the Lakeshore and Royal York area are in need of CLEAN coats and boots. 

Mr. Lowry, the principal at the school, is very appreciative of all our past and present efforts and would like to thank all LKS parents in advance. Donated items will be dropped off to Second Street Junior Middle School on Friday November 29, 2019.

Please drop off CLEAN and BAGGED coats and boots outside the front office.

Stonegate Holiday Hamper Program

Once again, LKS is partnering with Stonegate Community Health Centre to assemble holiday hampers for families in need in our community. Stonegate provides primary health care and health promotion services, as well as a wide variety of community programs, to the Stonegate-Parklawn Community. This year’s program will run at the end of November/early December. More information about the family assigned to each class will be provided soon by grade parents, as well as a wish list of items. Thank you in advance to all the families for your generous contributions!

2019 Parent Social Wrap-Up

The social committee is thrilled to announce the fundraising total for this year’s event is $26,000 – a new record thanks to the incredible generosity of our parent community, donors and sponsors. A huge thank you to all the parents and staff who attended. The social committee is blown away by the generosity of our parent community. Your enthusiastic support will help enrich your child’s experience at LKS. Truly amazing!

Lost & Found Reminder

Soon we will gather the Lost and Found items and donate them to the Jean Tweed Centre. The Lost and Found continues to overflow with hoodies, lunch bags, water bottles and more.  Please have your children check the Cubby Shelves and Hooks on the South Hallway of the school.

Terry Fox Cookie Orders

Our Terra Cotta Cookie orders were so successful, and really helped to boost funds for our annual Terry Fox Campaign.  The next round ordering is now available on Cashless until December 4th. Cookies will be delivered to students every Wednesday during the months of January – March.   All cookies are 100% nut and tree-nut free. Choices of cookies include Triple Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal and Vanilla Seasonal Cookies. The cost is $24.00. Don’t be disappointed, order your cookies today!

Art in Action December & Winter Sessions

Stay warm inside and spark your creativity this winter with Art in Action!

Join Art in Action and discover many new artists and art techniques. We will be inspired by the works of Marc Chagall, Tom Thomson, Pablo Picasso, Jonas Wood, Tang Yau Hoong and many others.  Art in Action has an art history component as well as the tactile experience of experimenting with different art techniques and working with a variety of art materials including watercolours, acrylics, oil pastels, chalk pastels and more. Fundamental concepts of the Elements of Design, as well as the Principles of Art, are presented in a fun and engaging way. 

This art enrichment program is geared for success with approachable step-by-step projects. Create a new piece each week!

Holiday Program: Mondays after school (Dec 2, Dec 9, Dec 16, 3 classes)

Winter Program: Mondays after school (Jan 13 – Mar 9, 8 classes)
