Springfest Help Needed Organizing Silent Auction and Food/Refreshments

Silent Auction. Join auction coordinator, Allison Needham, to organize class baskets, community donations, bid sheets, auction set-up and payment process. Ideal for 2-3 parents, requires approximately 6 hours pre-event (shared) and 2-3 hours on day of event. Contact Allison.Needham@rogers.com

Food Committee. It’s time for a shift change on the Springfest Food Committee! Work alongside food committee veterans, Leslie Thomas and her team, to learn the ropes at this year’s Springfest and take the reigns for next year. Ideally suited for a team of 5-6 parents, including 1-2 overall leads and 1 lead per food station (BBQ, coffee, lemonade/refreshments, pizza). Contact Leslie Thomas thomas17@avaya.com

Tombola is back and let’s be eco-friendly!
To make the Tombola game a success we need the support of LKS families to donate loot bags as prizes.  We encourage items such as outdoor balls that require minimal packaging or please package your loots bags using paper bags.  To encourage us all to be eco-friendly, paper bags are available in the office if you’d like to pick some up to package up your tombolas.
Loot bags will be collected daily from your child’s classrooms beginning on Monday, May 13th. Please see attached flyer for more information.

Note: Please no chocolate, unwrapped candies or used toys in the loot bags. ONLY NUT SAFE PRODUCTS (hard candies only).

Springfest Sponsorship Opportunities

Parent Council is pleased to once again offer sponsorship opportunities at a variety of levels. In 2019, Parent Council hopes to raise $20,000 to support exciting in-class enrichment including Artist in the Classroom, Scientist in the Classroom, Forest of Reading, author visits, IXL math and RAZkids reading programs. Benefits of sponsorship include event signage, pre-event promotion, and social media exposure. To secure your sponsorship opportunity, contact Amanda Brown manda.brown77@gmail.com.

Stuffed Animal Adoption Centre – Donations Needed

Please drop off gently used stuffed animals at LKS office to be donated for use at the new Springfest Adoption Centre. Give a previously loved pet a new home!

Forest of Reading News

2019 has been a successful year for reading at LKS!

We have been running the Forest of Reading for Grades 3 to 8 since December and we had our annual Voting Day pancake Breakfast last Friday. What a great morning it was!

Our final event for the Silver Birch Express, Silver Birch and Red Maple readers will happen on Friday May 17th. Readers that read at least 5 of the books and voted are welcome to attend the Awards luncheon, where we will find out the winners of each program. There will be pizza and make your own sundaes. Yahoo!

I will put up signs in the school and make announcements leading up to the big day but if you have any questions, please email me cynthia.mcgee@tdsb.on.ca

Book Overdues

We have a very busy happy library with more than 1000 books coming and going every week. Please check for any overdue items that your child may have. If you have lost or damaged a book, please let me know and we can work on getting off your child`s library account. My goal is always to get as many books through your child`s hands as possible.

Get caught reading LKS!
